Options in bathroom basins are virtually limitless in terms of size, shape and installation. Primary considerations when choosing a basin are space and overall bathroom style.
Kohler has a vast range of basins – each with the signature look of bold design and exquisite craftsmanship for which Kohler is renowned worldwide.
Choose from Pedestal and Counter Top options to self-rimming and undercounter or wall hung and semi-recessed.
Each basin style provides different options in terms of bench-top storage, space availability and preferred method of installation.
Select your preferred style of basin and then look at the wide choice Kohler has to offer.
Pedestal
these basins are mounted on a pedestal or shroud. The basin is positioned at a comfortable standing height with all plumbing and pipes concealed by the pedestal or shroud.
Counter Top or vessel
often called vessels they are designed to or vessel sit on top of a vanity or bench and complement a more contemporary style of bathoom. Kohler offers some exciting
options in vessels, from traditional conical forms in pure white vitreous china to beautifully individual designs from the Artist Editions collection that
draws inspiration from ancient Chinese print work, historical textiles and even tribal rain drums. A further dimension in Kohler vessel design is Nature's Chemistry whereby each is made from spun glass,
creating multiple facets that reflect light and colour in captivating patterns.
Self-rimming
The basin is dropped into the vanity or bench top and sits proud of the surface - these are sometimes called drop-in or self-rimming.
Under counter
These are attached to the underside of the vanity or bench and create an uninterrupted surface to the countertop, with no gaps or joins.
Wall hung
an excellent option for compact bathrooms and powder rooms. These basins require no vanity or bench so therefore free up valuable floor space. Kohler has a number
of wall hung basins that have an integrated counter space for toiletries. Some wall hung basins have a matching shroud that is placed beneath the basin for support and
to conceal plumbing.
Semi recessed
These are another space-saving option. A semi-recessed basin is partly installed within a vanity or bench top with the front
section protruding beyond the bench. These mean a much narrower vanity or benchtop can be selected.
The choice of basin also directly affects the type of tapware that can be selected. For example, a high, counter top basin will often
require an extended (extra tall) basin mixer to reach above the wall of the basin. Vessel and self-rimming basins will require a tap that can be mounted on the bench or on the wall.
Some basins also have pre-drilled tap holes in the vitreous china. These are generally supplied with a one (1) tap hole for use with single lever mixers or three (3) tap holes to be used with a mixer featuring a central spout and separate hot and cold handles.
